Dr Sally Walmsley

Dr Sally Walmsley is a composer and writer. With a background in Ethnomusicology, Anthropology, History, Music and teaching she has been working with various groups of people of all ages and abilities over the last 25 years encouraging active participation in the creative arts . She believes that active participation in the process of creation is crucial for living a happy and fulfilled life.

SoundMór, founded by Dr Sally Walmsley in 2012, works in a variety of settings such as cultural heritage, community arts, health and education with a range of funders such as local council, Heritage Lottery, institutions, health trusts and education.

SoundMór uses facilitated workshops to bring people together to explore the creative possibilities of improvisation through music, creative writing, video, art making, dance and drama. Social inclusion is promoted through active participation in the creative process.Directed activities in a workshop format allow participants to produce a piece of artistic work in response to a set task in each session reflecting the overall theme of the project. SoundMór uses these in conjunction with expertise in music, language, digital media and performance to create final pieces which are often site-specific and that build on interdisciplinary connections.
